Payroll and Finance Manager

Role purpose:

  • To manage payroll of c.1000 employees in line with Company requirements and current legislation.
  • To ensure effective and efficient preparation of the company's management accounts. To provide accurate and informative reporting of the company's performance for the purposes of the Board.


  • General book-keeping (including bank reconciliations, invoicing, expenses)
  • Ownership of month end close and production of monthly management accounts
  • Tax compliance
  • Production of Board reports
  • Quarterly VAT returns
  • Payments to suppliers/employees/HMRC
  • Key contact for external auditors
  • Liaise with HMRC
  • Monitoring and improving the internal control environment
  • Oversee company treasury requirements
  • Management of monthly and weekly payrolls from start to finish; including all statutory deductions/payments, starters/leavers P45s
  • Payroll period end reporting (RTI)
  • Management of pension auto-enrolment
  • Payroll year end reporting, including P60s/P11Ds
  • Act as subject matter expert for all payroll related queries that need escalation
  • To produce all relevant correspondence in relation to payroll enquiries (i.e. mortgage requests)
  • To keep up to date with changes in legislation and ensure that all payroll activities adhere to tax/employment legislation

Qualifications, knowledge and experience:

Required Skills

  • Qualification in accountancy (ACCA, ACA or CIMA). Part qualified will be considered.
  • Prior experience in running parallel payrolls
  • Proficient user of finance software
  • Advanced excel skills
  • Excellent knowledge of current tax/payroll legislation
  • High attention to detail
