The Huntswood Board bring extensive senior-level experience, drawn from both financial services and other regulated sectors.
Our Board members’ significant track records span UK and international organisations, including leading consultancy firms and some of the most high profile financial services brands. More specifically, they have a wealth of direct experience in driving businesses to achieve operational excellence in the areas of governance, compliance and complaints.
In addition, the Board have direct regulatory experience, as well as expertise drawn from the corporate finance and professional services sectors.
The team are passionate about helping firms enhance their reputation with their customers, people and regulators. They are also driven to instil a positive and agile culture across Huntswood that inspires the flexible, dedicated and collaborative approach to clients’ needs for which our business is renowned.

David Brownlow is a British entrepreneur and philanthropist. His commercial life includes two businesses he started – Huntswood, a specialist resourcing and consultancy firm; in governance, compliance and complaints and The Havisham Group, a diverse investment and trading business. Between them they turnover c£300 million, and provide work for over 6,000 people mostly across the United Kingdom with some overseas.
Outside his commercial endeavours he is Chairman of HRH The Prince of Wales' Foundation for Building Community and is a Trustee of The Dumfries House Trust.
David also has his own charitable foundation, dedicated to enhancing the lives and wellbeing of individuals and communities where there is an element of disadvantage.
Born in Liverpool; David attended King George V Grammar School in Southport and read Economics at the Business School of Northumbria University. His first job was as a policeman with The Thames Valley Police.
In his spare time he enjoys current affairs, cars, horse racing, traditional ballet (definitely not dance) and opera.
Angela has 25 years’ experience as an investor, independent director and advisor to companies and private equity firms. As Chairman of Huntswood, the experience she brings is not limited to business and financial services, as her current and past responsibilities stretch across a number of sectors including healthcare, travel, media and consumer services.
She is currently an independent director of Bournemouth Water, of recruitment firm Astbury Marsden and of Dunedin Enterprise Investment Trust, a quoted private equity investment trust. She has recently been Chairman of Fishawack, a medical communications agency and of Ansel Group which ran secure mental health facilities for adult rehabilitation - both were owned by private equity funds and successfully sold.
Angela is on the investment committee of Altitude Partners, a private equity fund investing in SMEs, and in the education sector, she’s a Governor of the Sherborne School.
Before 2007, Angela spent 18 years working in private equity for 3i, ultimately as partner of the Growth Capital business managing the UK portfolio. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant (ACA) at PWC in 1987.
When she’s not working, Angela enjoys travelling, playing golf and tennis, horse racing, trips out on the family boat and organizing her three children.
Craig has a strong track record within the Financial Services arena; joining Huntswood in 2002 to oversee the transformation of new business into ‘delivery’ and working on strategic client accounts.
His board appointment came in 2007, and as Commercial Director he led Huntswood’s commercial activities, including Sales & Marketing. In 2008, Craig became Huntswood’s Chief Operating Officer, and in this role, he led and oversaw the growth of all business divisions.
In 2011, Craig became only the company’s second Chief Executive having succeeded the company founder and majority shareholder, David Brownlow. As Huntswood’s Chief Executive, he had ultimate responsibility for the company's strategic growth and client delivery, which saw the business quadruple in size and win a number of awards including, Best 100 Companies to work for and several Fast Track 100 awards.
Craig stepped down as CEO in June 2015, however, he continues to work closely with the current CEO and Board as Deputy Chairman.
Before joining Huntswood Craig managed a section of Deloitte’s financial services outsourcing business. Before that, he spent 13 years in senior compliance and pensions roles.
Craig is married with a family and keenly follows most sports. Craig also holds a pilot’s licence and flys Gyrocopters.
Charles is an experienced corporate adviser. He worked in a senior role at NatWest (Royal Bank of Scotland), which included a secondment to government and head of corporate banking in the Thames Valley.
Charles’ knowledge of leadership, change management and team-based performance improvement have been crucial in shaping Huntswood’s success. He has held a number of non-executive roles in housebuilding and health clubs, was Chairman of Clydesdale Bank, Milton Keynes and Chilterns Regions and a partner in Keystone Employment Agency. He is currently the Independent Chairman of the Buckinghamshire Safeguarding Adults Board.
Charles is married with two grown up children. He has always been a very keen sportsman and is currently Chairman of Rugby at his local club and Past President and Chairman of Bucks RFU. He loves travelling and exploring wine and cheese regions!
A qualified accountant, Tim had an early career as a finance director in the construction industry. Later he joined Modus in the staffing sector as their Finance Director and was ultimately finance director of four of Hays' recruitment businesses.
Since leaving Hays, Tim has specialised as a chairman, non-executive director and advisor to private equity, founder, and family owned businesses in the recruitment and staffing industry. These have included Change Recruitment Group, Directorbank, Techpartners and Trinity Group. Currently he is also non-executive director of Astbury Marsden and McGinley Support Services. Tim is Chairman of Huntswood's Risk and Audit Committee.
Mark has 25 years’ experience in the financial services industry. As Chief Executive, his role is to focus on strategy, leadership and clients.
Mark has oversight of the execution of Huntswood’s strategic plan of extending the breadth of capabilities across financial services and other regulated industries, and in particular introducing technology innovation and analytics.
Mark is passionate that what sets Huntswood apart is its people and culture, and that the business is recognised as a trusted long-term partner by its clients.
Before he joined Huntswood, Mark was a senior partner at Catalyst Corporate Finance where he focused on the business services sector, and was head of the London office.
Mark enjoys watching most sports and playing golf, tennis and clay pigeon shooting when time permits. Besides this, most of his weekends are taken up with transporting his two sons, who seem to be constantly training or playing cricket or rugby!
Chief Financial Officer
Matthew has been overlooking all financial, risk and legal aspects of the Huntswood business since joining the board in 2010. He has brought a diversity of experience to the company, including extensive commercial finance experience from working in senior roles for EDS, O2 Airwave and Virgin Media.
Matthew started out his career qualifying as a chartered accountant in PwC’s Assurance and Business Advisory Service area, after graduating with a BSc degree in finance and management from Aston University. Before his board appointment Matthew headed up Huntswood’s commercial finance division, before moving on to become Group Financial Controller.
In addition to being the group CFO, Matthew also held the role of Chief Executive of two subsidiary companies, Conduit People Management Ltd and Conduit Accounting Services Ltd, and oversaw the successful sale of these two companies in May 2015.
Matthew is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and is also a member of the Institute of Directors.
Matthew is married with two young children. In between spending time with his family, Matthew is a member of Marlow & District Round Table, a local voluntary charity fundraising and social group. Matthew enjoys playing football, running, and keenly follows most other sports particularly rugby and cricket.
Chief Operating Officer
Dave is a business and customer focused senior manager with over 25 years’ experience in leading Financial Services companies. He is an enthusiastic and self-starting individual with excellent communication skills and a proven ability of leading and managing large teams and programme based activities. His background in formulating and delivering strategy, managing start up functions, re-engineering existing operations and managing cross functional teams reflects his key strengths in Operational Management.
Dave joined Huntswood in December 2014 as Director for Wealth and Asset Management helping develop new and existing client relationships. He quickly progressed to Strategy Director and in October 2016 Dave was appointed Chief Operating Officer.
When Dave’s not at work he enjoys exercise, watching and playing most sports and spending time with his family.
Human Resources Director
Sara is responsible for the recruitment, referencing and placement of Huntswood's network of contractors and permanent financial services professionals as well as managing the Human Resources function for Huntswood. She’s been involved in large-scale, specialised resourcing projects for many years, and prior to joining Huntswood in 2002 she was a recruitment consultant for the Michael Page Group.
Sara is trained in Thomas International's PPA and is also an experienced competency-based interviewer and assessor.
Sara has a young family; so much of her time is spent in soft play areas and petting zoos. Aside from the kids though, her other favourite things are being with friends, good food, and a cold glass of wine on a sunny day.
As Risk Director, Steve is responsible for ensuring that robust risk management practices are effective across the business. He oversees both the Legal and Information Technology functions, and has a real hands-on approach, working closely with many of our clients.
Steve initially joined Huntswood as a Customer Services Programme Manager back in 2003, ensuring successful delivery of our major client projects. He went on to establish a Business Improvement and Control function to ensure the continuous improvement of our core operating processes and systems.
His background in financial services operational and project management has been an asset. He worked for 18 years in customer service and project management roles in the Prudential’s Life and Pensions division. Plus, Steve brings experience from outside of financial services, having spent time as a business improvement project manager in the education sector.
Steve likes to spend as much time outdoors as possible either on the golf course, the tennis court, cycling, watching his beloved football team or walking his dog (sometimes he even spends time with his family too!).
Sales and Marketing Director
As Sales and Marketing Director, Ian is responsible for the sales and marketing strategy and overseeing Huntswood’s sales, marketing and commercial teams. These teams are at the forefront of introducing Huntswood’s breadth of capabilities to an impressive and increasing list of clients across financial services and beyond.
Ian joined Huntswood in 1997 and has over 18 years’ experience of working within the financial services industry in a sales and business development capacity. Ian has held senior positions within all four core business functions at Huntswood, working closely with our key clients.
Outside work, Ian is kept busy by his young family but finds time to fit in the occasional round of golf and enjoys racquet sports. He is an avid QPR fan, and enjoys a challenge.
Advisory Services Director
In his current role Paul is responsible for Huntswood’s Advisory Services, essentially leading the team in the provision of conduct and financial crime advisory services to help firms prevent, manage and remediate regulatory risk.
Paul is responsible for strategic direction and has Board level responsibility for the delivery of all advisory engagements.
When Paul joined Huntswood in 2010, he brought an impressive and diverse background which included regulatory, consultancy and industry experience. After graduating in law from Lancaster University, Paul started work at the Financial Services Authority, before joining KPMG’s Financial Services Advisory Practice. Following this, he worked for Barclays incorporating roles in Barclays Wealth, Barclays UK Retail Bank and its Western European Business.
When he’s not at work, Paul enjoys golf, running, Tottenham Hotspurs and spending time with his family
