Financial crime expert joins Huntswood

March 2008

Huntswood, specialists in consulting and customer services in the financial services sector, has appointed a highly experienced specialist in the financial crime prevention industry. Jason D. Haines B.A. (Hons) (Law); M.A. (Criminology); FSALS is leading Huntswood’s financial crime proposition.

Explaining the significance to Huntswood’s clients, Julian Morgan, Huntswood’s Director of Consulting, stated “the advice and guidance Jason will bring to Huntswood will be invaluable to our clients, so we are very excited to bring him into our team of financial services consultants. His appointment is a key part of Huntswood’s future direction and the strengthening of our regulatory and compliance capability.”

Jason was recently appointed as a special adviser on an international project relating to the assessment of international anti-money laundering and combating terrorist finance standards, and predicates in a number of overseas jurisdictions. He has also worked on the development of specialised legal risk models, designed to assist managers and those who oversee them to identify and minimise the risk of financial crime activity within their organisations.

Jason speaks regularly at UK and international conferences, including the International Symposium on Economic Crime, at Jesus College, Cambridge University. On his appointment to Huntswood, Jason remarks, “I am delighted to join the Huntswood team, which has an excellent track record of assisting its clients to protect their assets and client base from regulatory, reputational and financial risks. Rather than a forensic accounting exercise, our approach to financial crime prevention is holistic and pragmatic, encompassing legal and regulatory risks to the business. We have our ‘finger on the pulse’ of domestic and international policy developments, enabling our clients to develop a cost effective approach to financial crime prevention.”

Jason previously served on a House of Commons advisory group on the Financial Services and Markets Bill (Financial Services and Markets Act 2000). He has held academic appointments and lectured at a number of universities¹. Jason sits on numerous industry focus groups² which are assisting to shape the future direction of the regulation of financial crime in the UK and internationally.

Jason has written and published extensively in the area of financial services regulation, including a book on the regulation of Electronic Markets, which considers the jurisdictional, regulatory and compliance issues, including data protection and security, that has arisen through the use of the internet for the delivery of financial services. Jason has contributed, in an editorial capacity, to a number of international journals and is consultant editor on the Executive Board of The Company Lawyer, published by Thompson, Sweet and Maxwell Ltd.

At Huntswood, Jason joins an already impressive panel of advisers which includes: Ian Mullen, former CEO of the British Bankers’ Association, Charles Owen-Conway, chairman of Yorkshire / Clydesdale Bank and Andrew Fulton, a former senior British career diplomat who specialised in UK-US relations, Russia and Eastern Europe and is now a consultant on global political and commercial risk and security issues. With Jason joining, Huntswood further improves its impressive consulting capability.
